Basic Gemology and Jewelry Course. Duration 12 weeks, one 4-hour lesson each week.
The Course is called Basic, but it is in-depth and will give you significant practical experience in analyzing the main Colored Gems and Diamonds.
The purpose of the course is to train, at the highest level, jewelers and Gem enthusiasts with:
1) Experience in certifying many Diamonds and the main Colored Gems
2) Mastery of the complete gemological vocabulary.
3) Knowledge of jewelry styles.
4) Competence in market price evaluation.
5) Excellent sales percentages.
The Director of the Institute, professional Jeweler, accredited with the highest score by G.I.A.,
that is, by the most eminent world authority in the precious-goods field, and Gemologist Certified by GEM-A London and Graduate Gemologist of the Gemological Institute of America, will provide you with the most complete preparation to become professional jewelers with excellent gemological bases and remarkable sales percentages.
What the course consists of
The course has a duration of 12 weeks, with 1 lesson per week for a total of 12 weeks.
The lessons will be 4 hours long with a 10-minute break halfway through.
Two hours of class will be dedicated to theory, while the remaining 2 hours will be reserved for practice.
We will provide you with strong preparation on Diamond exchange prices. We will also discover the real market values of Colored Stones.
The more gemologically prepared you are, the easier it will be to close a sale. Obviously it will also be easier to strike a good deal in case of purchase.
A part of the Basic Gemology Course will focus on the use of gemological and jewelry vocabulary with which to address a client, in order to increase the Close Ratio (the ratio of sales to the number of clients entering your store).

What we teach in the Basic Gemology Course
The theoretical part will cover the following topics in depth:
1) Diamonds: Color, Carat Weight, Clarity, Cut, Proportions, exchange values and imitations.
2) Gems: the 4Cs, imitations, simple syntheses, care and cleaning.
3) Precious metals: market, regulations, jewelry manufacturing.
4) History of Jewelry: From prehistory to today.
5) The Big Three: Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire.
The practical part will focus on:
1) the fundamental use of the 10x loupe.
2) Diamond and Gem grading.
3) distinction between Diamonds, Moissanite and Cubic Zirconia.
The course will give you a basic but broad knowledge of Modern Gemology.
At the end of the course you will know how to give a value and classify the most important types of Gems. You will finally distinguish a Cubic Zirconia from a Moissanite or from a Diamond.
You will learn the basics of Diamond analysis and obviously acquire mastery of gemological tweezers.
You will discover the impact that being able to skillfully handle the 10x loupe and therefore the tweezers can have on the client.
In the Basic Gemology and Jewelry Course, we will also illustrate the most innovative and sophisticated techniques in responding to client objections. As a result, you will be able to carry out every sale in the smoothest way possible.
